The Dele Alli comments upon signing new Spurs deal that point to Pochettino snubbing Real Madrid

Dele Alli has signed a new six-year contract at Tottenham.

And could that be an indication that Mauricio Pochettino will remain loyal to the club too?

Pochettino has been linked with the vacant Real Madrid job this week, not for the first time.

The Spurs boss was heavily touted for the role in the summer after Zinedine Zidane waved goodbye to the Bernabeu, but he was handed a new five-year deal at Spurs and committed his future to the club.

Zidane’s replacement Julen Lopetegui has lasted little more than four months at the helm, and only two months of the season. And a 5-1 shellacking at the hands of fierce rivals Barcelona, dropping Los Blancos to ninth in La Liga, was the final straw.

Pochettino is currently the 2/1 joint favourite for the Bernabeu post alongside caretaker manager Santiago Solari, who has been promoted from the B team for the time being.

But does Alli’s contract signing give Spurs fans hope that their manager will be staying put?

The midfielder spoke to Sky Sports following the 3-1 Carabao Cup win over West Ham on Wednesday night and his comments about Pochettino suggest he may have had a chat with the boss over his plans for the future.

Alli said: “It’s a nice gesture from the chairman, I had a few years left on my old contract, but nothing changes I’m still going to keep working as hard as I can, keep fighting and trying to be a part of this team and help as much as I can.

“I owe a lot of thanks to Poch for where I am at the minute in my career, him, Jesus [Perez], Migi [Miguel d’Agostino], Toni [Jimenez] they’re keen to keep improving and heading in the right direction and I can’t think of a better place for someone of my age and where I am in my career, to have such amazing support and coaching staff to help me keep improving, that’s what I want to do, keep improving as a player and a person.

“It was a big part of it [Pochettino being the manger] the club is amazing, the players as well, it’s a special bunch of boys here, everyone gets on really well, but Poch is the one we’re working with all the time, it’s his philosophy, that is why we love playing here so when I think about signing Poch plays a big part of that.”
