Gary Neville has given his firm backing to the job Daniel Levy does at Tottenham this evening.
Neville stood up for the Spurs chairman and the work he has done at the club in the face of heated criticism from fellow Monday Night Football pundit Jamie Carragher.
The two were at loggerheads on Sky Sports before and after the game , with Carragher questioning why Tottenham had not made the next step to try and win the Premier League title after two close run things, while Neville tried to shout him down by saying they were working under a strict budget as a result of the new stadium being built and the delays to it.
And Neville, who would have endeared himself to the Spurs fans with his words, had a dig at north London rivals Arsenal, and Carragher’s Liverpool in standing up for Levy at Spurs.
Neville said: “Tottenham run the club very well. Daniel Levy is one of the best operators of a football club.
“He doesn’t get messed around by agents, he doesn’t get messed around by managers, he doesn’t get messed around by players, they’re all on long-term contracts, he very rarely loses them on a free transfer like some clubs have in the last few years, namely Arsenal and Liverpool at times.
“He runs the club very well, under a budget, you can’t be critical of that! That’s what their budget is, it’s like saying to somebody in the street who can have a house at that level ‘why don’t you just go and get one at this level’? You just can’t!”
