The summer transfer window is officially open for Premier League sides and Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to do some business for the first time since January 2018.
The Champions League final defeat against Liverpool was disappointing, but Spurs will now look to respond by acting in the market as they look set to to rebuild the squad for Mauricio Pochettino and strengthen ahead of their first full season in their new stadium.
Here is a look at the latest transfer rumours surrounding Tottenham ahead of what is sure to be a busy summer.
Spurs and Arsenal have been alerted to the availability of Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini, with his agent currently in London.
The midfielder has been linked with a move away this summer, and Serie A rivals Inter Milan are interested, according to Calciomercato .
But his agent is now in London, and Pellegrini would reportedly be interested in a move to either of the north London clubs. However, Spurs would currently lead the way due to their place in next season’s Champions League.
His release clause is €35m, but Roma are trying to get the 22-year-old to agree a new deal to eliminate the clause, and are said to be dangling the prospect of becoming a vice-captain of the club, in addition to increased wages.
Manchester United have reportedly increased their offer for Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, leaving Spurs behind in the race to sign the Portugal international.
According to Jornal de Noticias via Sport Witness , United have upped their bid to €65m + €15m in performance-based bonuses, building on Spurs’ €65m bid.
A deal is not done between the clubs, and there is apparently still a lot to be done before a transfer can be agreed.
Christian Eriksen is considering his future this summer and said to be desperate following Real Madrid’s decision to go all-out to sign Manchester United star Paul Pogba.
Eriksen had reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish side and took part in an interview in Denmark stating that “I feel like I’m at a point in my career where I might want to try something new”.
But Real have made no contact with Spurs about a potential move, and AS state their operation to sign him has now stopped, making the midfielder “desperate”.
Eriksen will now think about renewing his contract with Spurs, with Mauricio Pochettino hoping to keep him and Daniel Levy not keen on losing him on a free transfer next summer.
The playmaker would be in line for a pay increase to around £5.5m-per-year, level with of Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris and behind Harry Kane. The renewal talks could possibly shake Real Madrid into action, or even halt Spurs’ proposed moves for the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and James Maddison.
Spurs are reportedly among a number of teams chasing PSV winger Hirving Lozano.
The Mexico international has been linked with the north London club for some time, and Napoli are now said to have made a bid for the attacker.
However, according to CalcioNapoli24 , Manchester United, Spurs and PSG are still interested in the 23-year-old, who has yet to agree a deal with Napoli because of the interest from other clubs.
PSV are said to want €50m for Lozano, with Napoli reportedly willing to pay €40m this summer. Lozano’s agent Mino Raiola is apparently convinced a fee could be agreed between the two sides.
Spurs are reportedly keen on a deal for Marseille right-back Hiroki Sakai.
According to Sky Sports , the Japan international fits the profile of player that Mauricio Pochettino is currently looking for, with Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier both linked to moves away from north London.
However, there are concerns that his age means the club would not back Pochettino in signing him. The defender is 29, and the club are understood to be targeting younger players this summer with potential resale value.
Pochettino wants to improve both full-back positions, and if they miss out on top targets, Sakai could apparently become a serious target towards the end of the window.
